TITLE:                            TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS:      

    1.  High school diploma, preferably some college

    2.  Four years of experience in transportation, including two years in a supervisory capacity preferably in a school district

    3.  Demonstrated success in performing tasks of the sort listed below

 

REPORTS TO:               Superintendent

 

SUPERVISES:               Bus Shop Mechanics and School Bus Drivers

 

JOB GOAL:                   To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation to take full

                                       advantage of the complete range of curricular and extra curricular activities

                                       offered by the district’s schools.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extra-curricular activities.
  2. Prepares bus routes for all public and nonpublic schools in the district.
  3. Prepares and updates bus schedules for all public and non-public schools in the district.
  4. Recommends bus route assignments to the Superintendent in accordance with board policy.
  5. Administers the transportation budget.
  6. Requests purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules.
  7. Conducts and coordinates staff development workshops for bus drivers.
  8. Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based on a survey of resident students, distances, and grade levels.
  9. Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
  10. Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel and makes recommendations to the Superintendent on their employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
  11. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventive safety.
  12. Cooperates with school principals and others responsible for planning special school trips.
  13. Completes and dispatches insurance reports.
  14. Submits all reports required by state authorities.
  15. Advises Superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
  16. Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
