TITLE: Program for Exceptional Children (PEC) Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A master’s degree in special education, education administration, or
a related field
2. Valid leadership certification
3. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in special education teaching or
Administration
4. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

JOB GOAL: To oversee the special education program, ensuring compliance with
federal/state regulations (IDEA), managing budgets, and directing staff to
support student with disabilities.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Program Leadership & Vision: Develop and implement the long-term vision and strategic goals for special education services.
2. Legal Compliance: Ensure all programs strictly adhere to federal and state laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
3. Personnel Management: Recruit, hire, train, and supervise special education teachers, therapists, and support staff. They also lead professional Development workshops to keep staff updated on best practices.
4. Budgeting and Fiscal Oversight: Manage departmental budgets, allocate resources, and identify funding opportunities through grants and state/federal programs.
5. IEP Oversight: Supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet each student’s unique needs.
6. Collaboration & Advocacy: Act as a liaison between the school district and community agencies, parents, and government bodies. Facilitate parent advisory groups and resolve conflicts between families and schools.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
1. Expert Knowledge: Deep understanding of special education law and current research-based instructional methods.
2. Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to navigate sensitive conversations with parents and advocates for student resources.
3. Analytical Ability: Proficiency in using data to evaluate program effectiveness and drive decision-making

 

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
